Challenge

A pre-university college established in 1965, identified as one of the better-performing PU colleges in Karnataka, with departments spanning science, commerce, and arts streams, a hostel, computer and biology labs, a library of over 5,000 titles, scholarships, sports facilities, and a strong alumni record, has a significant amount to communicate to a prospective student and their family. The question is whether any of that reaches a visitor who is comparing institutions before making an admission decision.

Vivekananda PU College in Puttur was carrying that institutional depth without a digital structure capable of presenting it clearly. Academic information, faculty details, departmental offerings, facilities, and admission guidance were not organized around how a prospective applicant or parent actually moves through a college evaluation. Staff managing the site had no straightforward process for keeping content current, which meant that news, events, and institutional updates were either delayed or absent. The site’s structure had not kept pace with the college’s operational reality.

Solution

The redesign was treated as an information architecture problem before it was a visual one. The college serves three distinct visitor types, prospective students evaluating admission, current students and parents looking for updates and facilities information, and staff managing content, and the structure needed to serve each without one audience’s needs obscuring another’s.

Dedicated sections were built for academic streams and departments, faculty, facilities, and admissions, each as a navigable destination rather than content buried within general pages. A prospective applicant looking for stream-specific information or admission guidance reaches it through primary navigation. Facilities, the hostel, computer lab, library, sports infrastructure, and on-campus services, are presented in their own section, giving a visitor the institutional picture without requiring them to search for it.

A news and events section was built as a separate, manageable stream so that college activity, upcoming events, announcements, achievements, can be published and updated without affecting the core academic and admission pages. The content management workflow was simplified so that college staff can keep the site current without technical overhead.

The site was built on WordPress and optimized for consistent performance across desktop, tablet, and mobile, given that prospective students and parents are as likely to visit on phone as on desktop.

Results of the collaboration so far

A prospective student or parent arriving at the site now finds academic, faculty, and facilities information organized by section rather than scattered across a general institutional page. Admission guidance is accessible through the primary navigation. The college’s 60-year history, its scholarship programs, alumni outcomes, and campus infrastructure are all present and reachable within the same browsing session.

The news and events section gives the college a current voice on the site. Staff can publish updates, event notices, and announcements through a simplified workflow that does not require development support for routine content changes.

The site presents Vivekananda PU College with the organizational clarity that an institution of its standing warrants, and that a prospective applicant needs to see before deciding where to apply.

Conclusion

Institutional depth is only useful if it is organized well enough to be found. The work here was to give a college with six decades of academic record a digital structure that communicates what it has built, to the people deciding whether to be part of it.
