Challenge

An independent artist building a recognizable body of work across original gouache prints, collectible character stickers, digital downloads, and custom commissions has a product that travels. The art does not need to be local to be sold. But without a purchase infrastructure that supports international buyers, the market is effectively limited to whoever can physically access the work.

Crab Clouds had the creative output and an established presence across Instagram and YouTube, where the artist documents the process behind the work. What it did not have was a platform that could take a visitor from discovery to purchase, regardless of where in the world they were. Domestic and international payment support needed to exist within the same purchase flow. The platform also needed to carry the brand’s visual identity without defaulting to a generic storefront aesthetic. An art brand whose entire proposition is personality and craft cannot be presented on a template that communicates neither.

Solution

The platform was built on WooCommerce with the product catalogue structured around the three distinct purchase types the brand operates: physical stickers and art prints, digital downloads, and custom commissions. Each has a different fulfillment path and a different buyer intent. Stickers, priced from $2 upward, serve impulse and collector buyers. Art prints sourced from original gouache paintings serve buyers looking for wall pieces. Digital downloads, including printable coloring pages, serve buyers who want immediate access without shipping. Commissions sit outside the standard catalogue entirely and route through a dedicated request flow.

Both domestic and international payment gateways were integrated within the same checkout, so that a buyer’s location does not create a friction point at the point of purchase. The shipping and returns policy infrastructure was built to support cross-border orders.

The UI was designed to reflect the brand’s character rather than default to a neutral commerce layout. The gallery-driven product presentation gives the art the visual weight it requires. The artist’s identity, the creative process documentation, and the newsletter signup for coloring page delivery are built into the site structure rather than treated as secondary pages.

Results of the collaboration so far

Crab Clouds now has a purchase infrastructure that operates across geographies. A buyer in any market can move from discovering the work on Instagram or YouTube to completing a purchase within the same session, without encountering a payment method or currency barrier that interrupts that path.

The three product types, physical, digital, and commission, each have a purchase flow appropriate to their fulfilment model. A buyer wanting an instant digital download is not routed through a shipping flow. A buyer requesting a custom commission is not pushed toward a standard checkout.

The platform carries the brand’s visual identity through the purchase experience. The art is presented as art, not as catalogue inventory, which is the distinction that matters for a brand whose entire value is in the work itself.

Conclusion

Independent art brands do not scale through reputation alone. They scale when the infrastructure exists to convert discovery into purchase, across any market where the work finds an audience. The work here was to build that infrastructure without flattening the brand identity that made the work worth discovering in the first place.
